Reconciliation
Reconciliation difference
A reconciliation difference is the unexplained amount remaining after comparing a ledger balance with its independent statement or schedule.
How it works in the books
Common causes include missing transactions, duplicate entries, wrong dates, opening-balance errors, transposed amounts, or activity posted to the wrong account.
Example
A $94 difference may be a $49 transaction entered as $94, producing a $45 error rather than a missing $94 item.
What can go wrong
A zero difference is meaningful only when the correct statement period, ending balance, and account were used.
