Single-entry bookkeeping
Single-entry bookkeeping records activity in a simple running register without a complete debit-and-credit system.

How it works in the books
It may track cash receipts and payments for a very small operation, but it does not naturally maintain a complete balance sheet or self-balancing ledger.
Example
A spreadsheet with one row per bank transaction and one category column is a common single-entry setup.
What can go wrong
Loans, owner activity, credit cards, unpaid invoices, and transfers can be difficult to represent reliably in a single-entry register.
